The National Met Office issued a severe weather warning for north east Iceland and the central highlands today. Heavy winds are expected, reaching up to 20 m/s (45 m/h). Snow and icy road conditions are to be expected in the area.
The Icelandic Road Admission stresses that mountain roads in the central highlands are closed for traffic until early July because of their bad conditions.
As of today nailed tires are prohibited on all roads. However, police will not enforce the law until May 1st should weather conditions continue to be bad.
