Around four hundred foreign tourists were stranded in Seyðisfjörður yesterday due to adverse weather conditions in East Iceland. Seyðisfjörður is the port for Norræna, the ferry between Scandinavia and Iceland.
The tourists arrived with the ferry two days ago and intended to do some sight-seeing. However, the Fjarðarheiði road, which connects Seyðisfjörður to East Iceland’s capital, Egilsstaðir, was closed due to do bad weather, leaving the holidaymakers stranded.
According to the National Broadcasting Service a group of Germans attempted to cross Fjarðarheiði moor, ignoring all warnings about deteriorating weather conditions. The group was, however, forced to returned to Seyðisfjörður shortly after as the moor was impassable.
Today’s improved weather forecasts will hopefully allow for some sight-seeing.
