The section of Ring Road 1 that stretches from Ásólfsskáli under Eyjafjöll mountain range to Hvalnes peninsula in southeast Iceland is closed to traffic due to dreadful travel conditions after yesterday’s storm.
According to information from the Road and Coastal Administration, most major roads in Westfjords are impassable and closed due to severe weather. Trucks will begin to clear roads of snow as soon as the storm begins to subside. Roads in northern Snæfellsnes peninsula (West Iceland) are currently impassable due to poor weather conditions.
Holtavörðuheiði road, West Iceland, (connecting the south and the north) is closed to traffic until further notice. Most major roads in North and East Iceland are impassable due to heavy snowfall and ice.
