Arsonists finally mange to burn down the giant IKEA Christmas Goat 5420

13. mar 2023 20:41

The giant IKEA Christmas goat was burnt down by arsonists last night. The goat was located outside the Swedish furniture company’s store in the Reykjavík suburb of Garðabær.

In a video footage captured by IKEA's surveillance cameras system and published by local news site Vísir, two men can be seen putting a fire to the goat, with one throwing what looks like a Molotov cocktail and the other adding fuel to the fire

Police apprehended the stupid vandals when a car driven by a third man was stopped not far from the scene.

The 10 m (32 ft) high goat was a version of the traditional Swedish Yule Goat. These oversized versions are popular Christmas decorations in towns around the Nordic countries and also a recurring target for arsonists.

Last week two arsonists came close to injure themselves when a homemade Molotov cocktail caught fire in the hands of one of the two aspiring arsonists when they tried to burn down the goat in Garðabær.

In recent years the goat has been the victim of either arsonists or the fierce Icelandic winter winds, except last year's goat self-destructed when its faulty Christmas lights caused a fire and reduced it to ashes in a matter of seconds.

Last year IKEA erected another goat outside its store before Christmas. The second goat remained intact throughout the holiday season.
