Icelandic-American, Aron Jóhannsson, scored the 2nd goal in the United States national team´s 2-0 victory against Azerbaijan yesterday in San Francisco´s legendary, Candlestick Park. The friendly is the 1st of a 3 game send-off series for the Americans, preparing them for their first match of the World cup on June 16th, against African side Ghana.
Jóhannsson, who entered the match as a 61st minute substitution for Chris Wondolowski, found the back of net in the 81st minute off of a powerful header from a Brad Davis corner kick. The goal could go a long way in proving to German coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, that Aron deserves playing time in Brazil because of his ability to find the back of the net.
Also, scoring in the 2-0 victory was Norwegian-American midfielder, Mix Diskerud, who recently took the number 10 shirt from US legend, Landon Donovan. Donovan was controversially left off of the 23 man roster going to Brazil.
The next US match in their send-off tour will take place against Turkey, at New York Red Bull Arena, on June 1st.
