Last month broke historical records for rain at many measuring stations in Iceland. Reykjavík saw more rain last month than at any time since 1921.

Iceland's best known weatherman and weather blogger, Trausti Jónsson, writes on his blog that the precipitation in Reykjavík in April 2017 was 149.5 mm (5.89 inches). Trausti points out that the 1921 record was only 0.4 mm higher, a difference which is well within measurement error.

A rain record was also set for April at Keflavík Airport. A previous record for the airport, set in 1954, when 132.3 mm (5.22 in) of rain fell in Keflavík, was shattered this past month when 159.9 mm (6.30 in) of rain fell. At no time since measurements began has the weather station at Keflavík airport recorded more precipitation.
