The Icelandic Environment Agency has rejected two applications for businesses inside the Snæfellsnes national Park. Both applications concerned the Djúpalónssandur beach on the tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula: One was an application to set up a food cart which would have sold fish, the other for permission for a sightseeing amphibious vehicle to come to shore on the beach.

Both applications were rejected on the grounds that they would disturb the tranquillity of the area and lead to an excessive increase in traffic. According to the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service the application for the food cart was rejected with the argument that the parking lot and toilet facilities at the site could barely serve the current levels of traffic.
A food cart, the agency argued, would draw in even more visitors, which the local infrastructure would be unable to handle. Tourism and business operations which exceeded the capacity of the existing infrastructure would diminish the quality of experience for other guests, and could therefore not be permitted.

The Environment Agency also refused to grant landing permission to an amphibious sightseeing vehicle on the grounds that such motorized traffic on the beach would diminish the quality of experience by other visitors, all of whom were looking to experience the tranquillity of untouched natural beauty.
