A foreign traveller was rescued after he lost consciousness while snorkeling in Silfra fissure in Þingvellir National Park. The man, who is described as a male in his sixties, was taken by helicopter to the emergency room at the National University Hospital in Reykjavík.
Police in South Iceland received a call at 15:59 that a traveller had lost consciousness in Silfra fissure. Guides and other guests at the scene had been able to get the man to land. The Coast Guard sent a helicopter to the scene to take the man to hospital where he is being cared for. The National University Hospital does not offer information about the condition of patients. The man is travelling as a part of organized group with other family members.
