An American traveller of Indian descent who was found dead on Sólheimasandur beach on October 24 died of exposure. A spokesman of the Police in South Iceland told the local newspaper Morgunblaðið that an autopsy had revealed that the man had died due to hypothermia and exposure.
The man, Jaspinderjit Singh, arrived in Iceland on October 12. He was last seen on October 13 at a hotel in the village Skógar, by Skógafoss waterfall. When his family had not heard from him on October 23 a search was launched for the man.

His rental car was soon discovered abandoned at a parking lot by the path leading to the site of a crashed DC 3 plane, a popular tourist destination on Sólheimasandur black sand beach. The parking lot is located just 10 km (6 mi) from the hotel where Jaspinderjit was last seen. Members of ICE-SAR in South Iceland found his body on the banks of a glacial river which runs across the beach.
