An American traveller who is described as being around 30 years old was found dead in an Airbnb apartment in Kópavogur early Saturday morning. According to the local newspaper Stundin, which first reported on the matter, the man had been travelling with a group of friends who were celebrating a birthday.

Sudden and unexpected death
According to Stundin the group which rented the luxury Airbnb apartment came from the US and Europe. The group had chosen Iceland as the site to celebrate the birthday due to its central location, midway between North America and Europe.

On Saturday morning a local guide came to pick up the group. The man did not respond when his travel companions tried to wake him up, and seems to have passed away in his sleep. According to Grímur Grímsson, chief Police Chief Superintendent with the Metropolitan Police, there is no evidence suggesting foul play. The police is nonetheless investigating the death and awaits the findings of a forensic autopsy.

Stundin reports that the travel companions of the man told the owner of the Airbnb apartment that they would be taking the next plane out of the country.
