Icelandic parliamentarian Ásmundur Einar Daðason stands accused of having been plastered when he vomited over several passengers during a WOW airlines flight from Reykjavík to Washington DC earlier in May.

In an interview with local news site DV, which broke the story, the parliamentarian denies having been drunk and blamed his conduct on an unfortunate mixture of being sick, taking a sleeping pill and having a drink.

One of his fellow passengers on Washington-bound flight, however, calls this out as being a lie. The passenger, Tinna Margrét Jóhannsdóttir, told news site Vísir that it was obvious that Ásmundur was heavily intoxicated. Tinna was not only an eyewitness to his actions but also a victim as parts of his river of vomit hit her and her travelling companion.

“He could barely stand and had to lean on a pole when waiting at the passport control (after landing).” Tinna told Vísir and did not mince her words. “During the flight the air stewardess were in close attendance as he was absolutely pissed. This was no stomach flu. That’s just bullshit.”

Tinna explains that she and her friend escaped most of  the parliamentarian's upchunk. But there was no such luck for an American tourist who was so badly hit that he had to change clothes.

An air stewardess, that chose to remain unanimous, confirmed Tinna’s description in an interview with news site Fréttanetið.

Ásmundur Einar Daðason is a member of the Progressive Party (Framsóknarflokkurinn) and one of prime minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson’s closest advisers.

Ásmundur was travelling with nine other members of the parliament’s foreign policy committee for a meeting in the USA’s capital. Ásmundur has not been reached for a comment after Tinna's revelations.
