Air mechanics at Icelandair preparing for a strike, negotiations ongoing 408

Strike action on behalf of Icelandair pilots in the spring severely affected the tourist industry in Iceland as reported by mbl.is, and the industry worries that the potential strike on Monday may cause severe damage.

Air mechanics and Icelandair representatives are currently at the negotiating table. The tourist industry prays an agreement will be reached in their wage-dispute so that a 24-hour strike will not come into effect on Monday.

According to ruv.is, air mechanics will go on a 24-hour strike as of 6am GMT on Monday, June 16th, if an agreement has not been reached. A full-blown strike action will be taken on Thursday, June 19th

The Icelandic Tourist Industry Association has estimated that 12 thousand people are booked on a flight to or from Iceland on Monday; the same day air mechanics have scheduled a 24-hour strike.
