According to news website Mbl.is construction work to improve facilities and access to Gullfoss waterfall will begin this summer. The project is overseen by the Environmental Agency of Iceland.
It is estimated that 70 per cent of all tourists visiting Iceland pass through the magnificent Gullfoss and Geysir area during their stay.
The improvements are expected to help preserve the area which has been badly marred by the increasing numbers of tourists visiting the waterfall. New pathways are to be laid and old ones bettered and more panoramic viewpoints erected.
