A twenty-nine year old woman from Egilsstaðir, East Iceland, became the third candidate for a new political party due to a misunderstanding, reports the National Broadcasting Service.

Bylgja Dröfn Jónsdóttir was waiting in queue in her local grocery store when Áskell Einarsson, the founder and first candidate of the newly founded Endurreisn – listi fólksins (Restoration – the People’s Party), asked her to join the party for the upcoming municipal elections. Bylgja Dröfn signed what she thought was a list of references for the new party. Áskell, on the other hand, is positive that Bylgja knew exactly what she was signing up for.

When the party’s list of nominees was made public last weekend, Bylgja Dröfn realized she was now running for town council.
Rules and regulations regarding municipal elections state that a list cannot be made invalid after being made public. Bylgja must therefore run for town council and then resign after the elections.

Bylgja is the second person who ended up on the party’s list of nominees by accident, the other person, however, is not bothered by the series of unlikely events and will take his seat on the list.
