Tómas Guðbjartsson, a thoracic surgeon, spent this summer skiing down various mountains in North and central Iceland. Some mountains in the northern regions of the country still have snowy slopes, which is unusual for this time of year.

According to Fréttablaðið newspaper Tómas recently hiked up Mount Herðubreið in order to ski down. This is the surgeons fifteenth time up the mountain. As reported, an avalanche fell in Mount Herðubreið last week.

Besides skiing down Mount Herðubreið, Tómas has also made his way down the slopes of Kverkfjöll, Birnudalstindur peak on Vatnajökull glacier and went cross country skiing to the Askja region.
“One could say my summer holiday turned into a ski holiday,” the doctor said in an interview with Fréttablaðið today.
