Last Friday a local photographer, Ragnar Þorsteinsson, took this photograph of a group of travellers out on the frozen waters of Skjálfandafljót river where it plunges 12 meters forming the Goðafoss waterfall. Some members of the group are clearly far out onto the frozen river, just by the edge of the cliffs.

After Ragnar shared the photograph on social media the local news site 641.is picked it up, pointing out the scene in the photograph raised questions about when a serious accident would take place by the waterfall.
