One of the most noteworthy films at the Reykjavík International Film Festival ( RIFF) this year is Ludo, a psychological drama set in the Faroe Islands. The film is about an 11-year-old girl caught between her mother's dark, depressive mind and her father's passiveness.
The director Katrin Ottarsdóttir, graduated as a film director from the National Danish Film School in 1982, is a pioneer and a vetaran in Faroese filmmaking. She was the first Faroe Islander to get a film education and she is still the only Faroese film director with an education from a state film school. She wrote and directed the only two Faroese cinema films that have been made so far:Atlantic Rhapsody (1989) and Bye Bye Blue Bird (1999).
Katrin's other works include the short feature comedy The Man Who Was Allowed To Leave, and three feature length documentaries on Faroese artists. See trailer from Ludo below.
Riff places a special focus on films from the Faroe Islands and Greenland this year. The festival will kick off for the eleventh consecutive year on September 25 and spans eleven days.
