An earthquake was recorded 3 kilometres (1.8 miles) north east of Hengill volcano yesterday evening, according to the National Met Office.

The 2.7 magnitude quake happened about 9.30pm and was felt in the town of Hveragerði, located on the south coast of Iceland.

The area around Hveragerði is an active earthquake location and the town’s inhabitants frequently experience minor earthquakes such as this.
