According to the Tourist Board the map was compiled using publicly available information, and the Tourist Board welcomes all information which might help make the map better and more up to date. The map is not exhaustive. It is missing, for example, the shooting locations of the sci-fi movies Halo: Nightfall (2014) and the 1995 Judge Dredd movie, starring Sylvester Stallone. It is also lacking the filming locations of Star Wars.

The website is nevertheless a helpful resource to any traveller in Iceland. It's also easier to use than other similar maps which have been released previously, including a map prepared by the Icelandic Film Commission.

The Iceland Tourist Board explains on its website that the main purpose of the map was simply to satisfy people’s curiosity. “We are aware of the fact that a lot of people are interested in where popular movies and TV shows were shot, and the map is an attempt to show these locations.”

The Iceland Tourist Board also notes that it is aware the map is not exhaustive, and is asking for any help or tips on how to make it more comprehensive and up to date. We at Iceland Insider hope the Iceland Tourist Board will update the map, and add more movies and TV shows.
