Characteristic for our time, the old Arion bank building in Hólmavík, northwest Iceland, has been transformed into a hostel. Husband and wife Guðmundur Jónsson and Árdís Rut Hlífardóttir purchased the property last year and converted it into a comfortable 5-room hostel.

The Iceland Visit Hostel is well located by the harbour.

The Iceland Visit Hostel is located on the ocean front, boasting a stunning view over the town’s harbour and the North Atlantic ocean.

The quaint fishing village of Hólmavík is also the home to the Museum of Icelandic Witchcraft and Sorcery. The museum’s most popular object is the macabre “nábrækur”, or necropants, which are magical pants made by skinning a dead man from the waist down, featured in several old Icelandic folk tales.  By placing a coin inside the scrotum of the pants, the wearer was guaranteed an endless flow of money.
