According to Morgunblaðið, it has rubbed a small number of parliamentarians the wrong way having to face the Star Spangled Banner when they arrive to work each day.

Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament, rents offices on Austurstræti 8-10 in down-town Reykjavík. The building also houses the newly opened American Bar, which flies the American flag above both its entrances, one of which faces Austurvöllur square and the parliament building.

Independence Party MP, Vilhjálmur Bjarnason, finds it unbearable having the Stars and Stripes flying over the entrance to Alþingi‘s offices.

“It’s distasteful and unbearable,” he told Morgunblaðið.

Alþingi‘s president, Einar K. Guðfinnsson, agrees with Vilhjálmur and hopes the owners of the American bar cease this despicable action against the Icelandic government.

The president says the incident only comes to show how vital it is for the Alþingi to get its own office building, rather than having to rent a number of office spaces dotted around the city centre.
