The Icelandic Directorate of Immigration issued 861 residence permits to people of 84 different nationalities during the first quarter of 2015. 17.5 % of residence permits issued were granted to Americans, who were the largest group.
Between 45 and 75 people of Filipino, Thai, Chinese, Canadians and Vietnamese nationalities were granted residence permits. 28 permits were granted to Russian citizens.
Residence permits for relatives of Icelandic citizens and for students and their relatives were the most common types of permits. 545 such permits were issued, accounting for 63% of all issued residence permits.
While 861 residence permits were granted during the first quarter of this year, a total of 30 applications were denied during that same time period.
Out of 253 applications for Icelandic citizenship, 229 applications were granted.
