The definition of what constitutes the off-season in Iceland might have to be reconsidered, as the Icelandic Tourist Board reports that the number of travellers at Keflavík Airport in January 2017 increased by 75%, compared to January 2016. In January 2016 the number of foreign visitors was 77,000. This year the number was 136,000.

Half of the travellers were either British or American. In 2016 27,500 British visitors flew through Keflavík Airport, compared to 38,400 this year. Visitors from North America were 16,000 in 2016, but 35,000 this year. The largest increase was in the number of Spanish visitors. In January 2016 780 Spanish visitors came to Iceland. This year the number was 2,500, an increase of 220%.
