The geothermal beach in Nauthólsvík, located at the foot of Öskuhlíð hill, is a popular spot among locals on warm weather days. The area is perfect for those travelling with children as it offers a lovely playground on the beach, a warm wading pool and a grassy picnic area. Use of the area’s facilities is free of charge during summer. The area is open daily from 10 am to 7 pm.
2. Austurvöllur square
Austurvöllur is located across from the parliament building at the heart of Reykjavík and is a popular gathering place among local residents, especially on a sunny day. The streets surrounding the square are dotted with al fresco dining options. Longing for a cold beverage and a summer snack while you soak up the sun? Then this is the place to go.
3. Heiðmörk recreational area
Heiðmörk is a large green space located at the outskirts of the Reykjavík suburbs of Kópavogur, Garðabær and Hafnarfjörður. The area has some amazing hiking trails, lovely woodland hideouts and communal grills. Ideal for a lovely day out away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
