5.4 magnitude earthquake struck at Bárðarbunga caldera this morning 1944

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck at Bárðarbunga caldera at 9.03 this morning. This is the strongest earthquake in the area for more than a week. According to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) around 50 earthquakes have been detected in the Bárðarbunga area in the last 24 hours. Most of the recorded seismicity occurred on the northern side of the volcano's caldera.

The eruption in Holuhraun continues with the same intesity as before. The new lava field is now more than 73 square kilometres (28.2 sq mi) and is still growing.
