43% more foreign visitors in February 2016 than the year before 3634

According to data from the Icelandic tourist board 100,700 foreign visitors came to Iceland this past February, 30,300 more than the year before. This represents an increase of 42.9%. This is a significantly greater increase than the year over year increase in January, which saw a 23.6% increase.

Most of the increase was made up of American, British and Chinese travellers. The largest single group of visitors was from Britain, 43%, closely followed by US and Chinese nationals, 16.2% and 4.4% respectively.

The Icelandic tourist board points out that the last few years have seen an explosion in the number of visitors during the winter months. Five times more foreign travellers visited in Iceland this past February than in February 2010.
