Plans to construct a 3.000 square metre (32291 square feet) Volcano Centre in Hvolsvöllur, South Iceland, were presented to the town‘s inhabitants on Monday, reports Mbl.is.
The centre will feature a 360-degree cinema hall, an imitation of a lava flow, an earthquake simulator, and an information centre. The estimated cost of the project is one billion krónur (6.524.859 euros/ 8.239.947 US dollars). The centre is scheduled to open in 2016.
“The auditorium that features the lava flow model will be 12 metres (39 feet) high. The model is supposed to demonstrate just how massive the monster is that lurks beneath us,” explains Sigmar Vilhjálmsson, one of the centre’s owners.
