According to Dagbjört Jónsdóttir, chairman of Þingeyjarsveit district council, the plan is to improve the area located west of the waterfall in order to relieve pressure on the eastern area.

“Our aim is to preserve nature by improving the facilities. In some ways, one could say that we are spoiling nature by building paths and parking areas near the waterfall, but we need to facilitate the increasing numbers of guests visiting the waterfall,” she told Morgunblaðið newspaper.
