Yesterday an album of photoshopped pictures of a sleepy Icelander made the front page of Reddit. The images, which have been viewed 729,000 times, feature Haukur Viðar Alfreðsson, an employee of the Reykjavík ad agency Brandenburg, who had been napping peacefully on the office sofa.
The newly minted Reddit-star, Haukur Viðar, tells Iceland Magzine that the back story is that he had been staying up late the night before, watching a NBA game on TV, so when his colleagues went out for lunch he decided to take a quick nap on the office sofa.
The images were originally simply an office joke, but after they were uploaded to the Facebook page of Brandenburg ad agency, they went viral.
After Haukur’s brother uploaded the photographs to Reddit his fame was taken globally. Haukur Viðar has some mixed feelings about his brother having uploaded the photographs to Reddit:
These pictures became the hottest thing on Reddit for a while, where everyone was making fun of the fatso who fell asleep during work, but the fact is I was not sleeping on the job, but during lunch. Then, when I woke up I discover the first pictures are already online.
Haukur Viðar adds that it’s still a pretty good joke, and that many of the photoshopped images are really good.
It’s an ad agency, so the office is filled with artists and people with some serious photoshopping skills. It’s a good joke and has generated insane traffic for our web page. But, I hope my 15 minutes of fame are done now, because I am actually a very shy person!
