Fire didn't spread out of basement
The Metropolitan Fire Department was called to the house shortly before four in the morning after a fire broke out in the basement of the house. The ground floor of the building was filled with smoke. The thick smoke had made its way into the stairwell leading up to apartments on the second to fourth floors. The person who was taken to the hospital with suspected smoke poisoning had attempted to leave the house via the stairs.

The local news site Vísir reports that the fire department managed to put the fire out quickly. After the fire was put out it took two hours to clear out the smoke. The fire had not spread out of the basement. Among the businesses in the building is the restaurant Rossopomodoro, which is located on the ground floor.
