10,000 workers scheduled to begin a 12-hour strike at noon 1274

Starfsgreinasambandið is scheduled to begin strike actions at noon today, reports the National Broadcasting Service. Around ten thousand members will remain off the job for 12 hours during the strike, which will mostly affect areas outside of the Greater Capital area.

Starfsgreinasambandið (SGS) is a federation of trade unions operating within the private sector and part of the public sector.

SGS and Samtök Atvinnulífsins, an organisation that conducts negotiation talks on wages and working conditions on behalf of Icelandic businesses, returned to the bargaining table at 10am this morning.

BHM and the government were unable to reach a wage agreement yesterday. The two sides will continue negotiation talks on Monday. Around 3,000 BHM members working in the public sector have been on strike since April 7th.
