New lava from Holuhraun covers an area the size of Central Park 1431

According to the National Broadcasting Service, the lava produced by the volcanic eruption in Holuhraun lava field covers an area over 3 square kilometres (1.1583 square miles) in size. That is around the same size as Central Park in New York City (3.41 km2).

As of this morning the eruption continues at a stable level and remains an effusive lava eruption producing no ash-fall. 

The National Broadcasting Service, RÚV, shot fascinating footage of the lava flow. At the 00.34 nark one can hear incredible smashing sounds produced by the forces of nature.
